Psychodermatology: How Stress Affects Your Skin

Stress, by default, isn’t fun.  It can cause nail biting, panic attacks, high level of anxiety, sleepless nights, and even stomach pains which just aren’t fun symptoms to have.  High levels of stress can even cause skin problems and other health complications.  Psychodermatology is the branch of dermatology that studies the effect of your mental state on your overall skin health.  This is important because high levels of stress can wreak havoc on your body and agitate pre-existing skin conditions, such as psoriasis.  Simply understanding that stress causes your skin to break out or rile up your psoriasis is a big step in the right direction towards healthy skin.  When you know why your skin breaks out, you can stop it from happening in the future.
