Most of our bodies are covered with fine, pale hair that isn't visible to the naked eye.   Sometimes dark, coarse hair appears in unexpected places, such as the face, neck, abdomen, breasts or arms.   When this unwanted hair prevents us from wearing a bathing suit, shorts or a skirt, consider hair removal.

In the past, electrolysis was the most popular form of permanent hair removal.   It's effective, but can be painful and slow.   Hair by hair, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the hair root's ability to grow.   It typically takes months or even years of regular visits, even for small areas, like the upper lip.   Risks include electrical shock, infection and pitting or scarring.

Permanent laser treatment

We have a better alternative for fast, safe and effective permanent hair removal.   Triad Dermatology's laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light, which is absorbed by the pigment in hair follicles.   The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede re-growth.

What to expect

The length of a laser session may b a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area.   Because the laser treats actively growing follicles, more than one treatment may be required to disable follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase.

Laser treatment itself may cause a slight tingling sensation.   Because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia is available.   Immediate after-effects may include temporary redness and swelling. Most people return to normal activity right away.
